Weekly Highlights from the MPD, January 8-14

2200 blk Humboldt Av: Homeowner was checking burglar alarm inside house when noise heard at window, looked out window, saw a suspect trying to pry open window; victim tapped on window, suspect fled; officers located suspect, found crow bar in snow, suspect’s shoes matched prints in snow; victim positively identified suspect.

Arrested/ATTEMPTED BURGLARY

Precinct investigating

This is an attempted home invasion. If it weren't for the burglar alarm, it would have been more than just an attempt.

You can buy an entry-level wireless alarm system for around $100. It's worth the money.

Next:
2 Arrested: AGGRAVATED ROBBERY: 4300 blk Elliot Av S: Victim walking to front steps confronted by suspect armed with pistol; suspect told victim that he intended to force him inside residence, the victim replied “Only over my body”; suspect then backed down, fled with 2 suspects who were standing on sidewalk; victim called police, 3 suspects matching description detained, gun recovered nearby

This part gives me chills: "The victim replied 'Only over my body'". Good for him.

If you refuse to follow a thug's script, you stand a good chance of getting out of the encounter completely. Nothing good can come from allowing a thug into your home.

Both of these get included in the count because they would be full-fledged home invasions if either of the victims had reacted differently. They both fall under the scope of this site.
