This happened in Paynesville, population 2262.
PAYNESVILLE — A Paynesville couple were not seriously injured early today after a man with a weapon walked into their home and took their car, Paynesville Police Chief Kent Kortlever said.

The man, whose name has not yet been released, then walked into the couple’s unlocked home. The suspect had what the victims believed was a gun, Kortlever said.

Important lesson: Lock your doors!

Good news:
The victims were not tied up or injured....

Better news:
The suspect eventually got away in the homeowner’s vehicle. He was found in Mille Lacs County by a deputy and a state trooper, Kortlever said.

The man was shot twice by police and was taken to a nearby hospital.

To Whom It May Concern: We have a story about the owner of our company who is a police captain that wants to put a stop to home invasions.

We would like to introduce our upcoming "SAFER HOMES IN AMERICA PROGRAM". We have recently been on Channel 13 in Houston. http://www.youtube.com/beamoflight38
Our patented, space-age locking system "The Ultimate Lock" will be featured in major retail establishment to create awareness of personal safety in homes, apartments, retirement homes and colleges. Our founder, a Captain with the Harris County Constables office wants to create awareness to the general public about our device that could effectively safeguard people against the rising tide of violent offenses at their residences.

The Ultimate Lock truly believes that we can decrease the incidents of home burglaries, home invasions, and domestic violence. One of the most unique features of "The Ultimate Lock" is the “Panic Button” feature. It is the only door locking mechanism on the market that can render a deadbolt lock ineffective—even if an intruder has the correct key—in a split second. Our lock does this by piggybacking on an owner’s pre-existing deadbolt lock while withstanding up to 4,000 foot-pounds of force.

A standard deadbolt lock would merely split the door jamb if one were to kick in a locked door; this would not happen with The Ultimate Lock—it has been rigorously tested.
It was aesthetically improved by the NASA-funded SATOP (Space Alliance Technology Outreach Program) program.

We would like to meet to discuss how our lock can save lives and protect from home invasions in the community. If you are interested in educating your players about "home invasions", please let us know.

Thank you,

Sorry to come late to the party on this one. Regardless of all the other factors; gun/no gun, accuracy of details, locked/unlocked, did you check out the address where this occured? It is very much off the beaten path. Virtually no place is immune from this type of occurance. Always be prepared like you expect it to happen today.

I hadn't realized that I left the address in the story. Thanks. It's gone, now.

There have been a few VERY rural home invasions in the last few months. Everybody should be prepared.
