3 dead in domestic dispute southwest of Mankato

01/17/2010

http://www.twincities.com/news/ci_14212408?source=rss&nclick_check=1

LEWISVILLE, Minn. — A 28-year-old man who had a restraining order against him shot and killed the woman who took out the order, killed her stepfather, then took his own life Sunday at a home near Lewisville, southwest of Mankato, authorities said.

The Watonwan County Sheriff's Office said authorities were called to the house in Antrim Township at 7:45 a.m. When they were arrived, they were told some shots were heard in the basement.
[snip]
Deputies said the suspect had been charged in December with domestic abuse against the female victim. He was released on bail Dec. 21, but was re-arrested Jan. 5 for violating the no contact order.

He posted bail and was released from jail on Thursday.
This is certainly not random. The tragedy is that it was predictable and preventable. This is a failure of paper armor. When your violent abuser with a history of ignoring a no contact order gets released from jail, don't be home. If you must be home, be prepared to protect yourself.
